We would like to invite you to become a sponsor of the Chalk Art Gallery at the Festa di Peninsula Street Fair held on Sunday, July 22, 2007.

The Festa di Peninsula Street Fair is the largest one-day event in San Mateo County, drawing over 50,000 people to the downtown San Mateo area. The event begins with a lively parade and continues with more than 200 arts & crafts booths, food and beverage vendors, exhibits, and a colorful Chalk Art Gallery. In addition, there are three stages with diverse music and performing artists throughout the day, a Bocce Ball tournament, and a Concorso D’Italia (classic car show). The street fair benefits the Festa Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting Bay Area children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Chalk Art Gallery
Amidst all of the fun, food and excitement lies the jewel of the festival- The Chalk Art Gallery. A veritable “festival-within-a-festival,” this event brings talented artists to San Mateo to create ephemeral works of art in chalk directly on the pavement.

Chalk Art or Street Painting is an Italian tradition dating back to the 16th century. Artists at that time sought patrons by drawing images of the Madonna outside cathedrals, and became known as Madonnari or street painters.

Over the years, the Gallery has grown in popularity and size and has become an integral part of the festival. Local and regional papers have consistently featured the colorful work of the chalk artists prominently in their Peninsula newspaper sections. This year, we are striving to create a quaint “Piazza-like” environment with tables, chairs and umbrellas to allow attendees ample opportunity to watch the artwork unfold. We also are creating an “Avenue of the Children or Viale dei Bambini to inspire children to create their own works of art in designated 2’ x 2’ squares.

To make all of this happen, we are asking the community to provide assistance by sponsoring an artist square. Festival organizers will provide a chalk artist for you, or you may provide your own chalk artist of any age, artistic style or experience level. To both identify and advertise your participation, each square will be inscribed with the sponsor’s name. In addition, all sponsors are acknowledged in The Independent Newspaper’s special Festa advertising supplement (circulation 120,000).

Levels of sponsorship range from $150.00 to $5,000 and all have corresponding benefits for sponsors. Please review the sponsorship forms in the link below to see which sponsorship level, best complements your business advertising budget. Please know that all sponsorships are tax deductible. In addition, in-kind donations of products; shopping bags which could serve as “goodie bags” for the artists, or some sort of prize that could be given to each artist, such as a coupon or gift certificate, are also welcome.
